CALVIÀ WILL DEMOLISH THE OLD HOSTAL COLÓN IN PEGUERA WITH NEXT GENERATION FUNDS TO CONVERT IT INTO A PUBLIC SPACE

The municipality of Calvià will have a new public space thanks to the purchase and demolition of the old Hostal Colón in Peguera, an action that has a subsidy of 1.580.139,84 euros. This project was approved by the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport and is part of the grants line for Local Entities within the Tourism Resilience Strategy within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), financed with Next Generation EU Funds.
Specifically, this year the Government of the Balearic Islands has approved investing 75,3 million euros in 87 projects within this line of subsidies, four of which will be to buy obsolete hotel establishments and their reconversion for the improvement of mature areas.
For the mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, this initiative improves the urban environment and promotes local commerce, and also promotes social cohesion in Peguera. Amengual has highlighted that it is the first area to be improved in this way in the 21st century and that "a municipal endowment for public use will be carried out, which will be accompanied by improvements throughout the Peguera beach promenade. A mature destination, Peguera, is being updated into an updated destination where we will incorporate all the improvements within our reach for both residents and, above all, for the tourists who visit us.”
For his part, the Regional Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Jaume Bauzà, recalled that “the grants from the Next Generation Funds must serve to make the Balearic Islands tourist destination more attractive and environmentally friendly.” Specifically, this action that will be carried out in Calvià will mark, according to Bauzà, “a before and after for the Peguera area, gaining a public space for citizens and giving a renewed and more modern air to this centre.”
