DAVID DIÉGUEZ RODRÍGUEZ, WINNER OF THE 'PREMIS REI EN JAUME' PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS 2018
The prize-giving event took place at the opening ceremony of the Exhibition of the 38 works presented at the veteran cultural contest recently recovered
The work 'Holi de colores', by David Diéguez Rodríguez, has been the winning photograph of the 'Premi rei En Jaume' Photography Awards 2018 in its Colour category for its 'chromaticism and expressiveness', as highlighted by the jury of the awards that have been recognised this afternoon in an event held at the Calvià Town Hall. The awards in the Black and White and Night categories have been deserted, but the jury has awarded a special mention - in the Black and White category - to the work 'La reina mora busca a su contrincante', by Bernat Carrot Calvayrac, for the photo's ' technical resolution, movement and festivity expression'
Both, the mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal and the deputy mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés, handed out the diplomas and a 1,000 euros cheque to the winner at the ceremony, in which the exhibition of the works participating in the 'Premis rei En Jaume' Photography Awards 2018, was also inaugurated. 39 works by 8 participants have been presented at the contest dedicated, in this edition, to the rei En Jaume Festivities.
The Calvià Town Hall has recovered, this year, one of the best recognised contests of the cultural field of the islands, to stimulate the artistic creation and to make known the wealth of the municipality from the historical, recreational, geographical, natural point of view, etc. In each call, a specific theme will be established in order to generate coherence and linkage between all the works presented. This award began in 1971 under the name 'Premios Calvià' (Calvià Awards). After different stages, in which the modalities were added and linked to the Landing festivities, they stopped being called after 2011.
The jury was formed by Maria Sebastián Sebastián, Art History professor at the UIB; Marina Planas Antich, graduate in Audiovisual Communication, photographer and cultural manager of the Casa Planas Cultural Centre; and Ricard Llorens Huc, photographer and photographic laboratory technician.
