CALVIÀ DELIVERS THE BED PLAN SUBSIDIES TO 74 SPORTSPEOPLE

The Town Hall allocates € 45,000 to promote individual sports modalities

Mario Mola and Laura Quetglas stand out amongst the beneficiaries

On Monday, Calvià delivered the BED plan subsidies to individual athletes of the municipality. A total of 74 beneficiaries have received an economic aid that is distributed based on the athletic merits of the group of athletes. The event was held at the Sala Palmanova, where pictures of the subsidised in action have been screened in a small tribute attended by relatives and authorities, headed by the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the deputy mayor of Sports, Eva Serra, who delivered the grants.

Mario Mola and Laura Quetglas are two of the most iconic athletes in the Calvià sport sphere. Three-time world triathlon champion and European Stand Up Paddle champion, Mola and Quetglas are the athletes obtaining the most points in the evaluation thanks to their successes in competition.

The Stand Up Paddle stands out as the most graceful discipline due to the remarkable results of the rowing surf of the Balearic Sea SUP Centre, a school run by Laura Quetglas, in the different national and international tests.

Support for sports

Calvià support for sports is clear. The consistory, through the Sports Institute of Calvià (ICE), has allocated an important item to promote minority sportspeople. Most are under 21 years of age, since the main objective of the BED Plan is to promote the lower categories, but the extraordinary merits of the absolute athletes have given them an important sum of the total. Half of the people who have received the subsidy are women.

Sports centre

Amongst the sports receiving the grants are, athletics, in which outstand both, the shot putter José Ángel Pinedo and the hurdler Yidiel Contreras; archery, with the world champion César Vera at the top; and karate, discipline in which Noelia Grau was proclaimed Spanish champion recently. In addition, two chess players and seven water polo players (it is the only team modality rewarded), have received the grant.
