Calvią Civil Protection and Emergencies Day

CALVIÀ CIVIL PROTECTION AND EMERGENCIES DAY 2019

Today, Calvià Civil Protection and Emergencies have celebrated its Day with the institutional act of concession of medals and congratulations given by the mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the deputy mayor for Security, Andreu Serra; the regional minister for Finance and Public Administrations, Catalina Cladera, and the head of the Local Police of Calvià, Justino Trenas.

The gold medals with Spanish flag distinctive to the merit of Calvià Civil Protection have been awarded to Manuel Barné, Manuel Girón and Manuel Sánchez, for their prevention tasks, work and effort for more than 30 years.

The bronze medal with orange distinctive to the merit of Calvià Civil Protection has been awarded in recognition to Cristóbal Reina for his dedication and professionalism in the prevention, work and effort for more than 10 years in Civil Protection.

The bronze medals with white distinctive to the merit of Calvià Civil Protection have been awarded in recognition to María Isabel Filgueira, Juan Julián Jareño and Juan José Jiménez for their dedication and professionalism in the prevention, work and effort for more than 5 years in Civil Protection.

The Calvià Civil Protection merit plaque has gone to 'Ses Quarterades de Calvià' public school for their work, effort and dedication in the development and maintenance of the self-protection school plan, tasks that have contributed to make the centre a safer place for their students. This plaque has also been granted to 12 beach concessionaires of the municipality of Calvià for their dedication to rescue and life-saving on the coast.

There have also been special thanks to:

-Aspro Ocio, for their selfless collaboration in providing spaces for training dogs to the Calvià Civil Protection Volunteers Association.

-Isurus and Zoea Mallorca, for their selfless collaboration in the provision of diving material for cleaning the seabed.

-Informática 2K, for their professionalism in the development of the Association's computer support maintenance.

-Unitat Canina de Mallorca, for their work and service performed in the search for missing persons and dog training.


On the other hand, the
Mayor's Office congratulations have been given to people from the Calvià Civil Protection Association and also to external ones:

-To 13 Calvià Civil Protection volunteers for their work and dedication from 9th to 14th October in Sant Llorenç floods.

-To 5 Calvià Civil Protection volunteers for the rescue of two people in Sant Llorenç floods.

-To María Isabel Filgueira for the service coordination from 9
th to 14th October in Sant Llorenç floods.

-To the medical assistant Bartolomé Stela, for his services in the events held in Calvià.

-To Jaime Paler, for the Association's computer maintenance.

-To María del Pilar Pacheco Pérez, as ambassador of the programme
“No más colillas en el suelo de Mallorca” (No more butts on the floor of Mallorca).

-To Juan Juan, for his professionalism in the development and maintenance of the Beach Rescue Plan in the municipality of Calvià.


The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, congratulated all the distinguished people, and made a public acknowledgment of the work carried out by Civil Protection throughout the year, thanking, on behalf of all citizens, the extraordinary work done by volunteers, which makes it even more valuable. He also highlighted the work and behaviour of Civil Protection volunteers in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar floods "You are the modern heroes," he said, "because you work even risking your life for the benefit of the others."

On his behalf, the deputy mayor for Security, Andreu Serra, stressed that Civil Protection has its main asset in each and every one of its volunteers who prove to be professionals in solidarity, noting that what defines them is: volunteering, service and professionalism.

Manuel Girón, operational coordinator of Calvià Civil Protection, has carried out the presentation of the 2018 Report with the slideshow and has detailed some results of the activity carried out last year:

-450 schoolchildren from the municipality participated in the 'Stop ahogados' (Stop Drownings) campaign, in which they were able to share experiences with lifeguards and take an interest in their work.

-48 rescuers from the beach surveillance service carried out 3,010 dressings.

-60 people -between lifeguards, beach service concessionaires and Calvià Town Hall staff- updated knowledge and safety action protocols.

First aid actions have also been carried out in the schools of the municipality.

The greatest activity of Civil Protection has been carried out on Magaluf beach with a total of 14 incidents. The largest number of boat rescues was on Santa Ponça beach due to storms, and the highest rate of notifications to bathers was for La Romana beach users.

At the end of the ceremony, attendees went outside the police facilities where the vehicles and equipment with which Civil Protection works have been exhibited.
