Calvią celebrates Book's Day

Wednesday 17th April 2019

BOOK'S DAY FULL OF ACTIVITIES IN CALVIÀ

Calvià celebrates Book's Day 2019 with a series of activities, several of which are aimed at children, such as workshops, theatre and performances, amongst others. This year marks five centuries of the first round-the-world trip and five decades of the arrival of man on the Moon, so the activities on this occasion will be related to these two historical milestones.

The central act will take place on Saturday 20th April from 10.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Passeig de la Mar in Palmanova. In addition to the usual bookseller stands with editorial novelties, book exchange and sale of roses; there will be a portable planetarium with 5-metre diametre and 2.7-metre high dome in which an astronomer will discover the secrets of the Cosmos in 10-15 minute sessions.

Throughout the day there will be woodcutting, litography and stencil workshops in which the workshop organisers will use various techniques to develop Moons and Earths with the circumnavigation route map with the use of a press. As a novelty, this year a workshop will be held in the afternoon in which a pin for Book's Day can be made.

There will also be a photo booth to make bookmarks.

The celebration of Book's Day will end on 30th April in Sa Societat with the theatre play 'Llum Trencada' with Iguana Teatre in which some stories of republican women will be recovered from the book 'Dones republicanes: memòria de la guerra civil a Mallorca' (Republican women: memoir of the civil war in Mallorca), by Margalida Capellà.
