Friday 14th June 2019

CALVIÀ SIGNS A COLLABORATION AGREEMENT WITH ASPANOB (ASSOCIATION OF PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH CANCER OF THE BALEARIC ISLANDS)

The Calvià Town Hall contributes 3,000 euros through an agreement that has been signed today with the aim of improving the life quality of children with cancer.

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the president of ASPANOB (Association of Parents of Children with Cancer of the Balearic Islands), Jaume Coll Sureda, have signed a collaboration agreement through which the Town Hall contributes 3,000 euros with the aim of improving the life quality of all children from 0 to 18 years of age who are ill with cancer and their families.

The ASPANOB Association was created in 1987 by a group of parents who came together to improve the life quality of children suffering from cancer. ASPANOB has a comprehensive care programme that includes: free shelter flats for displaced families, from the other islands and from other villages (two flats in Palma and one in Barcelona); a psychosocial support programme that provides families with a psychologist who maintains daily contact with families; a school support programme; a social assistance service and financial aid for the illness treatment and displacements; and a programme of leisure, free time and family respite activities with intra and extra-hospital actions aimed at children as well as parents, brothers and sisters to provide leisure time.

The agreement-signing event was also attended by Mayte Albertí, the councillor for Social Welfare and Senior Citizens; and the general director of Social Development and Equity, Ana Pérez.
