Thursday 4thJuly 2019

INFORMATIVE NOTE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ

THREE PIRATE TAXI DRIVERS HAVE BEEN FINED AND THEIR VEHICLES IMMOBILISED

The Local Police of Calvià has located and fined three pirate taxi drivers with 18,003 € to and have immobilised the vehicles with which an illegal service of passengers was offered while they circulated throughout the municipality of Calvià. The Traffic Division of the Local Police of Calvià has carried out a specific investigation to be able to intercept the illegal taxi drivers while they were committing the infringement, since it is an illegality very difficult to detect and to prove. The discretionary public transport of passengers without the mandatory authorisation supposes a fine of 6,001 € for each driver, since it is considered a very serious infraction according to article 94.1 of Law 4/2014, of 20th June, on land transport and sustainable mobility of the Balearic Islands.

The last case was yesterday at 7 a.m. when a pirate driver was transporting four foreign citizens from Magaluf to Palma for the price of 5 €. The previous case took place on 20th June, and is a repeat driver who offers tourists illegal transport with a rental van. Also, on 31st May at noon, and near Marineland, another driver was fined for the same reason.

The Traffic Division of the Local Police of Calvià, in addition to the monitoring and control of discretionary public transport of passengers without authorisation, has made 229 static control devices, has inspected 8445 vehicles and has filed 814 complaints for infractions in terms of road safety in the first six months of the year. This specific Traffic division has officers that work in coordination with the Regional Ministry for Mobility and Housing.
