CALVIÀ OFFERS INITIAL QUALIFICATION PROJECTS TO 22 YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH THE IFOC
It is one of the few municipalities of the islands having this type of training
22 young people, between 16 and 21 years old, who have not completed ESO (Obligatory Secondary Education) studies, are receiving training at the Calvià Training and Employment Institute (IFOC) centre in Son Ferrer, with a double objective: they can “return” to the education system and learn a trade for their insertion into the labour market.
The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has visited this morning the centre's facilities that were renewed and improved a few years ago. Rodríguez Badal has first- hand known, from the teachers, about the courses they carry out and has had the opportunity to listen to the students of the two courses, who explained him the different activities they carry out. The mayor has encouraged them to continue in their training by reminding them how important the effort they make is for their future.
Calvià is one of the few municipalities that, in this case through the IFOC, offers Basic Vocational Training activities or Initial Qualification Projects (PCI), which are subsidised by the Regional Ministry of Education and University and which allow to combine pre-employment training with regulated academic training measures.
In Calvià, two specialties are offered, via professionalism certificates: a PCI for vehicle electromechanics maintenance assistant, which began in 1994, and another for Hairdressing Assistant which has a 3-year career. With this training, they obtain the first level of Adult Education and the Professionalism Certificate level 1.
The deputy mayor for Education and Training, Olga Granados; the councillor of Son Ferrer, Alfonso Molina; the councilwoman of Youth, Marga Plomer, and the manager of IFOC, Darío Espallargas, also visited the centre.
