Extraordinary housing rental aids

 Tuesday 1st September 2020

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL HAS APPROVED, SO FAR, CLOSE TO 400,000 EUROS IN EXTRAORDINARY HOUSING RENTAL AIDS DUE TO COVID-19

Almost 300 of the grants have already been approved which, at the end of the procedure, will benefit more than 400 applicants

Calvià Town Hall has already made payments for the first consingment of applications to the Covid-19 rental aid line, which has been launched this year as an extraordinary measure for families who have problems to pay the rent of their home due to causes arisen from the pandemic.

In total, 109 families have already received the subsidy, which has meant an amount of 152.865 euros. On the other hand, a second batch of files has already been approved, which will mean that, soon, another 184 families will receive the aid that will mean a total amount of 246.952 euros. So, until now, 293 families will have been subsidised for a total of 399.817 euros.

At present, the applications that had to correct deficiencies, due to errors in the documentation, are being resolved, so there will still be a third list of beneficiaries of the aid.

The files that have been denied or had to correct deficiencies have been published on the website of the Calvià Town Hall Housing Office, with various reasons for refusal, among which are having another home, not complying with the 8 months registration, or return to the workplace, amongst others. In total, 854 applications have been received for this grant call, after ruling out duplications.

The grants that have been offered are up to 40% of the monthly rent for rentals of up to 900 euros, and subsidies of up to 30% for rentals of between 901 and 1.100 euros per month. Grants are awarded for a maximum of 6 months, reviewable bimonthly.

This extraordinary line of rental aid, which is compatible with the annual subsidies of Calvià Town Hall, which will be convened in October, and with those of other supra-municipal administrations, is one of the initiatives included in the agreement of the Municipal social, economic and environmental recovery Plan of Calvià ratified by all municipal political groups and social and economic agents of the municipality.
