Pérez and Kessell prevail in the Half of Magaluf

Monday 28th June 2021

Núria Pérez and James Kessell prevail in the 36th edition of Half Marathon Magaluf
About 1000 participants enjoyed the three races
It is the first international massive sporting event in Calvià

Both, the Magaluf half marathon and the 10 km race started on 26th June at 7 p.m., at the athletics track. This event is the first to be held in Calvià with the participation of 1.000 people, since October 2019.
The race met the expectations of both, participants and organisation. The adaptation of the services to the new reality worked, and the desire to compete again of the people who participated, generated a spectacular atmosphere in Magaluf.

Núria Pérez and James Kessell won

In the half marathon, men's category, the British Jame Kessell (Clapham Chasers club) with a time of 01:14:45 achieved the victory, while in the women's category, the victory was for Núria Pérez of the CA Filípides club with a time of 01:31:53.

New circuits

The race started at 7 p.m. from the Magaluf athletics track, an ideal time to run, taking advantage of the lower intensity of the sun.
The people participating in the races travelled the streets of Magaluf, Son Ferrer and Palmanova through two new circuits (21 km and 10 km) released this year with a double objective: adaptation to COVID (avoiding crowds and being able to better organise services) and continue capturing the essence of the Palmanova and Magaluf tourist areas, their coast, promenades and commercial avenues.
The two races were held simultaneously and without overlapping runners from both circuits.

The best running experience

Runners in the Magaluf Half Marathon enjoyed the best running experience, considering the circumstances. The organisation tried to maintain as much as possible the services that have made the event popular, of course, this time, further personalising the experience and applying the established COVID protocols at all times.

The Half Marathon Magaluf and the environment

One of the most important premises of this edition was to focus on environmental improvements for the event. And in that determination, the organisation focused on eliminating single-use packaging during the race. The plastic of the refreshment stations has been replaced by reusable cycling cans. After the experience, we can affirm that it has been a success and the idea is to be able to continue in the same line in future sporting events in the municipality.

In collaboration

Half Marathon Magaluf is organised by the Fundación Calvià 2004 and the Institut Calvianer d'Esports, a body that depends on Calvià Town Hall. The race has the support of the Mallorca Turisme Foundation and the Mallorca Live Festival Foundation.
