The stay of young people from Greece in the framework of the ERASMUS + Exchange Program ends
A group of 18 young people, between 15 and 23 years old, from Greece, have stayed nine days in Calvià to carry out the first phase of the Youth and Cultural Exchange project, subsidised within the framework of the Programme “Erasmus+: Juventud en Acción", with the title "Arte Intercultural".
Between 2st and 30th July they have carried out various activities focused on group cohesion, art and culture in general. Some of them have been created and designed by young Calvià residents who have been their guides during this experience, in which the main language of communication has been English.
Throughout these days they have had cultural visits throughout the island: to the capital, Palma, through the old town and the historic centre; to emblematic towns of the Serra de Tramuntana such as Valldemossa, Deià and Sóller; to Alcúdia, walking along the old town walls, and to the Caves of Drach. Excursions to the Albufera Natural Park in Mallorca and stops on the beaches near the points visited such as Muro beach, Cala Deià or Cala Romàntica in Porto Cristo. In the municipality of Calvià, they have had the opportunity to go kayaking through the Marine Reserves of the Malgrats and El Toro Islands, and visit one of our basics such as the Galatzó estate.
These outings have been combined with other cultural and traditional activities in Calvià and Mallorca, such as a small representation of the "Rei en Jaume" festivities, by the Colla Muhammad Ali, a batucada class and an exhibition of "dimonis" , all of them in Es Generador.
On the last day, the Youth Service organised a great farewell to the Greek group, for which a small gastronomic sample was prepared outside the Es Generador building and an exhibition of "Ball de Bot" in the Amplifier Room.
By way of closing, the Youth Leaders of the Calvià and Greek group together with the Deputy Mayor of Joventut i Participació Ciutadana, Marga Plomer, handed out the Youth Pass, a document that recognises the learning outcomes in the Erasmus+ programme, and some small souvenirs such as reminders of this great experience.
The general balance from both the Calvià group and the Greek group is very positive, showing that responsible leisure with values is already a reality. With a good organisation and respecting the sanitary measures in force, it has been possible to carry out all the programmed activities, and they hope that this will be the first of many exchanges and collaborations with other European communities.
At the end of August, young people from Calvià will go to Athens to carry out artistic and cultural activities in Greece.
