European Mobility Week in Calvią

Friday 17th September 2021

CALVIÀ FOR SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY

The municipality holds the European Mobility Week with activities for all ages between 18th and 26th September

Calvià participates in the European Mobility Week (SEM) 2021 call with the organisation of different activities between 18th and 26th September with the slogan "Sustainable, healthy and safe mobility". This year's choice of theme pays tribute to the adversities suffered by Europe - and the world - during the Covid-19 pandemic, and call for reflection on the opportunities for change arising from this unprecedented health crisis.

Activities have been scheduled for all ages, amongst which it is worth highlighting the new Town Hall's Sustainable Mobility Project which, on 22nd September, coinciding with World Car-Free Day, will be presented at Sa Societat theatre. The European Mobility Week in Calvià will end on 26th September with the Sustainable Mobility Day, a fun day at Palmanova Municipal Service Centre parking lot, with activities and exhibitions for all ages.

In addition to the two main events, different activities are carried out in collaboration with different municipal services, such as the storytelling and workshop for children on Saturday 18th in Plaza Francisca Revert square, with the Library Service; and the skateboard customisation and assembly workshop, at Galatzó Skatepark, with the Youth Service. Also noteworthy is the collaboration with the Calvià Cycling Club or the Calvià Yaïs Mountain Club, to organise a cycling tour and a night excursion, on the 24th and 25th, respectively. Finally, together with eMallorca Challenge, two novelties are promoted compared to previous editions, a round table on Thursday 23rd, 'Sustainable mobility, reality or utopia: Three experiences applied to the company', with the participation of specialists in electric vehicles, individual and marine sustainable mobility and an exhibition of electric vehicles within the Day's framework on Sunday 26th.

The councillor for Environment, Rafael Sedano, expressed his satisfaction with the programme and placed in particular value the collaboration and transversality when programming the activities: "The World Days and the European Weeks are not an excuse to carry out actions that do not have continuity the rest of the year, but should serve to increase the work of pedagogy and awareness that is being carried out, in our case, in a strategic Environmental Education programme" and added" at the same time, it serves us as turning point and to be able to rethink the initiatives or, as is the case this year, to be able to announce important novelties regarding the sustainable mobility of the municipality ".

The European Mobility Week is a campaign aimed at raising public awareness of the negative consequences of excessive car use, both for public health and the environment, and the benefits of using more sustainable forms of transport, such as public transport, cycling or walking.
